According to information from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) global iron ore reserves amount to 160 billion tons of ore, equivalent to about 79 billion tons of iron content
Generally the main use of iron is to manufacture steel, but also has other uses such as:
Cast Iron: Iron is partially refined containing up to five percent of coal. Cast iron is very hard, but brittle, and is ideal for molded, such as engine blocks auto parts.
Wrought Iron: almost pure iron combined with a glass-like material. Wrought iron is softer than cast iron and does not rust. Used in outdoor furniture, railings and other decorative elements.
Steel: It is the most common form of iron utilization. It contains about one percent of coal and has lots of uses, among which such steels used in construction (eg, bridges, structures etc.).
Stainless Steels: Contains chromium, which makes it very resistant to rust. Stainless steel is ideal for vehicle parts, hospital equipment and utensils
Refractory Steels: Extremely hard consistency, is used in metalworking tools.
